The Genesis Group Drone Education Program

Drones are very interesting to adults and youth alike, and the Mohawk Valley and Central New York abound in drone research, development, and activity. Numerous regional technology companies have been successfully innovating for the drone industry and contributing to its body of knowledge. Meanwhile commercial uses of drones range from law enforcement, search and rescue, mapping, delivery, real estate, videography, and inspection services – not to mention recreational drone use!

Drone enthusiasts can’t get enough information, training, or practice using, building, and repairing their drones. This includes adults and children as young as ten years old who can engage in entry-level and advanced study of drones with guidance and support from Genesis Drones. Such involvement can evolve into serious study or career options in technology, aviation, science, mathematics, programming, and more – or enhance the use of drones as tools in various vocations.

Since 2022 The Genesis Group Drone Education Program has offered a range of single- and multiple-day training options for school and organization groups, and for individual youth and adults. Participants can improve manual flight skills or learn to fly for the first time. Drone safety, building and repair, programming, the science of flight, First Person View (FPV) flight, and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules of the airspace are some of the components of training that “launch” participants into the exciting world of this technology or enhance their capabilities.

Program co-chairs Jeff and Maria Smith have over ten years of experience as drone instructors and lead a cadre of seasoned FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot instructors. Together they have hosted dozens of drone camps for student and adult groups and individuals in Oneida, Herkimer, Oneida, Onondaga, and Oswego Counties.
